AB 1207 (Irwin)
Reauthorized the state’s Cap-and-Invest Program (renamed from Cap-and-Trade) through 2045 and made practical reforms to reduce energy costs and keep the state on track to achieve its critically important climate and clean energy goals. The revenue generated by the Cap-and-Invest Program has been a critical source of funding for many of the programs CalCAN has advocated for in the past decade.

Removes several longstanding regulatory barriers that have prevented increasing the production and sale of compost on farms and ranches

AB 408 (Wilson)
Put a bond measure (Proposition 4) that voters approved in Nov. 2024 to fund investments of hundreds of millions of dollars in climate smart agriculture, local food system infrastructure, and farmworker health and well-being.

Advances prescribed grazing as a multi-benefit wildfire solution by making it eligible for funding in CalFire’s budget, and integrates the practice into local, regional, and state wildfire mitigation plans.

Executive order that set a goal of conserving at least 30% of California’s land and coastal waters by 2030. Calls on CDFA to accelerate natural carbon removal and build climate resilience in agricultural soils.

Created a technical assistance program at CDFA to assist farmers applying to HSP, SWEEP, and AMMP.

Launch of the Healthy Soils Program (HSP)
AB 859 launches the Healthy Soils Program and the Alternative Manure Management Program (AMMP) to provide grants to farmers for improving soil health and reducing methane emissions associated with manure management.

Encourages local governments to identify and prioritize agricultural lands for farmland conservation and identify land suitable for urban in-fill development.
