Federal Campaigns and Bills
Participación del NSAC
CalCAN is a longstanding and active member of the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC), an alliance of grassroots organizations that advocates for federal policy reform to advance the sustainability of agriculture, food systems, natural resources, and rural communities. We co-chair their Climate Subcommittee and collaborate with other NSAC members on climate-related agriculture policy strategy at the federal level.
Some examples of NSAC’s historic climate work include:
- Champions for funding and program improvements for USDA’s agriculture conservation programs (especially the Conservation Stewardship Program y Environmental Quality Incentives Program).
- Support for the Agriculture Resilience Act, a bill that aims to help the U.S. reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural sector by 2040—while giving America’s farmers more tools and resources to increase their profitability.
- We led a campaign to pass the Converting Our Waste Sustainable (COWS) Act. It would establish a new federal manure management conservation program that reduces methane emissions on dairies while improving the economic viability of small and medium-sized dairies.
