Welcome Alexa, Our New Operations Associate!

I am pleased to introduce you to Alexa Hernández Benavente, CalCAN’s new Operations Associate! In her studies and the jobs she’s had, her commitment to sustainable agriculture, policy and environmental advocacy is evident.

Alexa is a recent graduate of UC Berkeley with a degree in Conservation and Resource Studies with an emphasis in International Sustainable Development. She recently worked with the Multinational Exchange for Sustainable Agriculture, supporting them on outreach, and last year she was a community organizer with the North Valley Labor Federation, focused on COVID outreach efforts in the Central Valley. During her time at Santa Monica College, she was both the Director of Student Advocacy, an elected position, and the Director of Sustainability. Alexa speaks Spanish.

Alexa spent her childhood in Guatemala until her family moved to Los Angeles early in her teens. At every turn, she has shown herself to be a leader and creative problem-solver, and we are lucky to have her on board. She will be working for CalCAN from Los Angeles on administrative tasks, social media, technology and operations, supporting the whole CalCAN team. Welcome to Alexa!
