{"id":9205,"date":"2018-04-27T08:35:12","date_gmt":"2018-04-27T16:35:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/calcanstaging.kinsta.cloud\/?p=9205"},"modified":"2018-04-27T08:35:12","modified_gmt":"2018-04-27T16:35:12","slug":"smart-meter-monitoring-finds-climate-smart-ag-farmers-cutting-water-energy-20-percent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/calclimateag.org\/es\/smart-meter-monitoring-finds-climate-smart-ag-farmers-cutting-water-energy-20-percent\/","title":{"rendered":"Smart Meter Monitoring Finds Climate Smart Ag Farmers Cutting Water, Energy 20 Percent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Between the 2016 and 2017 growing seasons, farms with <a href=\"https:\/\/calclimateag.org\/es\/sweep\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Water Efficiency and Enhancement Program (SWEEP)<\/a> projects reduced their water and energy use by more than 20%, according to recently released results of an ongoing audit of fourteen projects.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9207\" style=\"border: 0px solid #000000;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/calclimateag.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/SWEEP-Smart-Meter-Audit-Results-from-2016-Round-1.png?resize=601%2C183&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/calclimateag.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/SWEEP-Smart-Meter-Audit-Results-from-2016-Round-1.png?resize=1024%2C312&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/calclimateag.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/SWEEP-Smart-Meter-Audit-Results-from-2016-Round-1.png?resize=300%2C91&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/calclimateag.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/SWEEP-Smart-Meter-Audit-Results-from-2016-Round-1.png?resize=768%2C234&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/calclimateag.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/SWEEP-Smart-Meter-Audit-Results-from-2016-Round-1.png?w=1226&amp;ssl=1 1226w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The results of the audit, which uses remote smart meter monitoring on a sample of the 126 projects funded in 2016, were shared at the March 15 meeting of the California Department of Food and Agriculture\u2019s (CDFA) Science Advisory Panel (SAP).<\/p>\n<p>The positive results of this audit build on the results of CDFA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/calclimateag.org\/es\/audit-finds-climate-smart-ag-program-out-performing-water-savings-estimates-cutting-ghg-emissions-healthy-soils-program-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previous audit of 18 earlier SWEEP projects<\/a>, which found that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>actual water savings were 95% higher than the initial estimates in the project applications<\/li>\n<li>actual GHG reductions were 3% higher than the initial estimate in the project applications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>SWEEP provides grants to growers for irrigation management improvements, including increased efficiency measures, soil moisture monitoring equipment, solar pumps and more.<\/p>\n<p>SWEEP is very popular with farmers.
