{"id":18022,"date":"2023-03-30T10:15:58","date_gmt":"2023-03-30T17:15:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/calcanstaging.kinsta.cloud\/?p=18022"},"modified":"2023-03-30T10:21:26","modified_gmt":"2023-03-30T17:21:26","slug":"food-and-farm-resilience-bond-ab-408","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/calclimateag.org\/es\/food-and-farm-resilience-bond-ab-408\/","title":{"rendered":"Food and Farm Resilience Bond AB 408 (Wilson) passes Assembly Agriculture Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yesterday the Assembly Agriculture Committee passed <a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240AB408\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Assembly Bill 408<\/a>, the Climate-resilient Farms, Sustainable Healthy Food Access, and Farmworker Protection Bond Act of 2024 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with a bipartisan 10-0 vote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AB 408 is authored by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/a11.asmdc.org\/biography\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Assemblymember Lori Wilson (D-Suisun City)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and proposes a $3.4 billion bond for the November 2024 ballot to invest in creating a more equitable and climate resilient food and farming system. CalCAN is one of the co-sponsors of the bond bill along with 17 other organizations in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/resilientfoodsystem.org\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coalici\u00f3n para la Resiliencia Alimentaria y Agr\u00edcola<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a diverse group of organizations working across a number of sectors including food access, environmental justice, sustainable agriculture, labor, and public health.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bond investments would help create a more equitable and resilient food system with proposed funding across four pillars:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sustainable agriculture<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Farmworker well-being<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Healthy, sustainable food access<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regional food infrastructure<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Testifying in support of AB 408 at the hearing was Sandra Nakagawa, Policy Director at the California Climate and Agriculture Network who noted, \u201cThe climate crisis is already having devastating effects on California\u2019s broader food system. We also know that climate impacts are going to intensify in the coming years and that those impacts won\u2019t be felt equally across all communities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the second bond bill sponsored by the Food and Farm Resilience Coalition. During the last legislative session <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB125\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AB 125 (R.
