CalCAN and several partner groups joined in yesterday&#8217;s event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThese essential programs have already established a proven track record of public health, environmental, and economic benefits for communities across our state. Underserved areas like those in my district have been able to wield these grant opportunities in order to construct new parks, expand city greening, support agricultural efficiencies, and improve the condition of the Salton Sea.\u201d<\/p><cite>&#8211; Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/calclimateag.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/SWEEPStory_EmeraldSeed.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"story of a farmer (opens in a new tab)\">story of a farmer<\/a> in Assemblymember E. Garcia\u2019s district spearheading an <a href=\"https:\/\/calclimateag.org\/es\/solutions\/waterstewardship\/\">on-farm water stewardship<\/a> project with <a href=\"https:\/\/calclimateag.org\/es\/sweep\/\">climate investments<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Governor Newsom will release his May revise budget today, which will include the Governor\u2019s proposal for climate change investments. Assembly and Senate leaders called on the Governor to support $400 million from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund for the following programs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Urban Forestry Program<\/strong> under Cal Fire<\/li><li><strong>Urban Greening Program<\/strong> under the California Natural Resources Agency<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/calclimateag.org\/es\/sweep\/\">State Water Efficiency and Enhancement Program (SWEEP)<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>under the California Department of Food and Agriculture<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/calclimateag.org\/es\/hsp\/\">Programa de suelos sanos<\/a><\/strong> under the California Department of Food and Agriculture<\/li><li><strong>Wetlands and Watershed Restoration Program<\/strong> under the California Department of Fish and Wildlife<\/li><li><strong>Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Programs<\/strong> under the Wildlife Conservation Board, California State Coastal Conservancy, California Coastal Commission, and San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development      Commission<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cAs the recent fire in my hometown made all too clear, our climate change liabilities are growing. Funding programs that achieve emissions reductions and <a href=\"https:\/\/calclimateag.org\/es\/solutions\/onfarmresilience\/\">bolster our resiliency through investment in our natural resources and working lands<\/a> will save billions over time in costs that could otherwise crush local governments.
