Agriculture Resilience Act (H.R. 2803\/S. 1337)<\/h2>\n

CalCAN endorses the Agriculture Resilience Act (ARA), a bold, comprehensive plan to achieve net zero agriculture. The ARA outlines a farmer-focused, research-driven path to fighting the climate crisis on our nation\u2019s farms. The ARA utilizes existing farm bill programs to keep farmers on the land and in business, while equipping them with the tools and resources they need to be active partners in our efforts to mitigate the climate crisis by doubling funding for conservation programs and tripling agricultural research funding. The bill was first introduced in the House last Congress and the reintroduced version of the bill, now with a Senate companion, incorporates important modifications. Read more here.<\/a><\/p>\n

National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition<\/h2>\n

CalCAN is a member of the\u00a0National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition<\/a>\u00a0(NSAC),\u00a0an alliance of grassroots organizations that advocates for federal policy reform to advance the sustainability of agriculture, food systems, natural resources, and rural communities.<\/p>\n

NSAC member groups\u00a0advance common positions to support small and mid-size family farms, protect natural resources, promote healthy rural communities, and ensure access to healthy, nutritious foods by everyone.<\/p>\n

In November of 2019, NSAC released a policy position paper, \u201cAgriculture and Climate Change: Policy Imperatives and Opportunities to Help Producers Meet the Challenge\u201d<\/a> reviewing the latest science in climate change mitigation and adaptation on U.S. farms. The report details eight federal policy reform priority areas and 29 specific policy recommendations. NSAC also released eight science-based agriculture and climate change policy principals<\/a> to accompany the full report.<\/p>\n

In 2020, NSAC members gathered over 2,000 farmer and rancher signatures on a letter calling on Congress<\/a> to take action on climate change.<\/p>\n
